About Driving Instructor Training
To qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), you must pass all three DVSA qualification tests. Our training programmes use a blended learning approach that prepares you for every stage, with the option to obtain a Part-Qualified Instructor (PDI) licence so you can start teaching before taking your final Instructional Ability test.
We provide all the training and support for you to pass your ADI Test.

Part 1: Theory & Hazard Perception
Part 1 is split into two sections:

-

Hazard Perception Test
You’ll then watch 14 video clips and identify developing hazards as early as possible.
To pass, you must score 57 out of 75.
You need to pass both sections to complete Part 1.

To pass, you must commit:
-
No more than 6 driving faults, and

No serious or dangerous faults
This test ensures you can drive to a professional, expert standard.
Part 3: Instructional Ability

-
Lesson planning
-
Risk management
-
Teaching and learning strategies
After the session, the examiner will review your performance, issue your grade and provide a full test report.
To pass, you must achieve a Grade A or Grade B.
Once successful, you can apply for your first ADI badge within 12 months. If you don’t pass, you may retake the test within 2 years of passing Part 1.
